I woke up this morning around five o'clock and could not return back to sleep. After meditating on the goodness of the Lord I turned my phone on and begin to listen to some music. What was in my play list you ask? None other than Ms. Fantasia Barrino. For some of you this may seem like an oxymoron, or just a little weird. How can you meditate on the goodness of the Lord and then listen to Fantasia? Seems almost like oil and water, the two just don't mix. Yet the funny thing is they did and it was through this that I heard God speak to me regarding relationships.
So many times we put a major emphasis on our natural relationships, that our spiritual relationship goes lacking. So much so it leaves God asking us the question as Lil Kim so frankly put it "who you loving, who you wanna be hugging?" While the question may seem a bit secular in the natural eye it is very relevant in the spiritual eye. God is a Jealous God (Exodus 20:5) and wants an intimate relationship with you. Just as your natural relationships take time and work, so does the spiritual one. We should be communicating with him daily and longing to be alone in his presence. Just like we do our natural relationships. How nice would it be, that after a long hard day from work you come home, light a candle, play some worship music, relax and enter into the presence of the Lord. It's moments like these that we miss out on, because our natural mind can't conceive having a relationship with someone we can't physically see. Yet it is so easy for us to get caught up in the pings and pangs of our natural relationships that it often causes us to miss God.
If we learn to build and strengthen our spiritual relationship with our father, HE will teach us and help us build our natural relationships. If we learn and yearn for a love of the things of Christ, then we will learn how to love one another. Practice taking sometime out of your day to build a relationship with God. Exert some of your energy into thinking about how good and awesome HE is. Take fifteen minutes on your lunch break and tell him all about your day. It is these things that the father desires, for it is the true worshipper that HE seeketh for "God is a spirit and they that worship him must worship in spirit and in truth" Mark 4:24. So as Fantasia croons on her CD entitled Back to Me, "I feel like falling in love tonight" and am ready for him to "Teach Me" how to love. I promise you falling in love with Jesus will be better than your Momma's "Collard Greens and Cornbread." If you don't believe me try Him for yourself and see.
I agree, we have to put God before every relationship and before the things that we want to do.
