Dreams:Fantasy vs. Reality

As a child I was an avid TV watcher. I remember watching shows such as Bonanza, Gunsmoke, The Lone Ranger and the Big Valley. I used to dream of riding a horse off into the sunset like they did on TV. Of course to me this was just a dream. I wanted to work at a stable and have a talking horse like Mr Ed. (Willllllllllllllbur lol) but alas those things were just dreams, a piece of my vivid imagination. I tried to create an opportunity for my dream to be fulfilled, but it didn't come to past. Yet I never gave up on my dream. I believed that one day an opportunity would present itself, where my dream would be fulfilled, and yesterday it finally happened. My fantasy became my reality.

I rode a horse, yes you read correctly, a H-O-R-S-E, and not just any horse but a thoroughbred (a race horse). I shared with numerous people about my dream of riding a horse, and most people laughed at me, told me I was crazy, or said it would never happen, and for a moment I almost believed them. These people are called dream killers. It was then that I realized you can not share your dreams with everyone.

As children many of us dreamed of being lawyers, doctors, astronauts, engineers etc. but as we got older, we seemed to have bookcased those dreams because we felt that they were unattainable. We must make a conscious effort to pursue our dreams. "Write the Vision, and make it plain upon tables, that he may run that readeth it" Habakkuk 2:2. We must write out our visions, turn them into goals, and plan to fulfill them. Here's a helpful tip: Create a 3-5 year vision board, and put your dreams on them. Put it somewhere you can see it daily. Once you have accomplished your dream, remove it from the vision board. After all of your dreams are fulfilled repeat. Fulfilling your dream will not come without some adversity, but with faith, determination, hard work and perseverance you can achieve them. For with God all things are possible if you only believe. I have a dream do you?

  1. Definitely know all about dreamkillers and they can exist within your own family as well. I once was told that I couldn't be the president of the United States because of my race and look what happened on November 4, 2008. A dream for someone and so many others came true. I like the idea of the vision board as I agree we do tend to shelve our dreams out of sight. Also out of seeking a comfort/safe zone we tend to do what is normal or customary and not challenge our selves by going after what we really want to do despite any setbacks we may run into along the way. We then get into these continuous periods of funk where we hate our jobs, give bad customer service and bring home drama from work and it destroys our personal life and ability to enjoy the satisfaction of life. It is at these moments you gotta shake the dirt off your sandals, pack a light bag and head in another direction, be it foreign or not. Walking by FAITH and not by sight... of course not walking blindly into a busy intersection expect God to tell you a speeding Metro bus is coming at you but by closing out the direct visual noise (short term setbacks) and try listening to what God calls us to do in our life and how he wants us to guide our feet on that path of success. Successful singers didn't wake up one day and decided to sing and made millions on that same day. Athletes don't just pick up a ball or racket and become the next Tiger Woods. Its from believing in yourself and the passion to never give up and working hard to achieve what you really desire that actually expresses our best work/talent. Thank you for sharing this message. I hope it touched others as much as it has touched and motivated me to continue pursuing my dreams!
